8 Early Signs Of Pregnancy

When you’re trying to have a baby, anxiously waiting for the time to come to take a pregnancy test and see if it’s positive can be agonizing.

However, your body may be giving you early signs that you’re pregnant before you even taking a test. These signs can be similar to what you feel before you start your period, so it may be hard to notice any differences. While taking a test will you give you the positive/negative sign you’re looking for, here are some symptoms you may notice before then that could mean you’re pregnant.

Early Pregnancy Symptoms

Sore Breasts

This is often one of the first early signs of pregnancy women experience. But, it’s also a common symptom many women feel before they start their period, so it can be hard to distinguish if anything is different. If you are pregnant, the soreness won’t go away like it does while on your period. Since your body is preparing to make milk, the pain might get worse over time. It should lessen after the first trimester.

Fatigue and Nausea

Morning sickness can strike early, but typically it doesn’t occur until around 6 weeks after conception. The major sign of fatigue that you may experience early on is complete exhaustion. Thanks to the increasing level of pregnancy hormones in your body, the perfect 8 hours of sleep you may have gotten last night still aren’t enough to keep your eyes open. You need all of the sleep, and you need it now. These symptoms should start to ease up by the time you hit your second trimester.

Mood Swings

Again, this is an early sign of pregnancy that many women may experience while they’re on their period. But if you’re pregnant, this is an emotional roller coaster you may be stuck on until baby arrives. With all of the pregnancy hormones and life changes you’re about to experience, it’s totally normal for your moods to quickly change. Be sure to give yourself time to breathe and remember that it’s all going to be okay!

You’ve gotta pee

Like, all the time. It’s common to think this may not become a problem until well into your pregnancy once there’s a baby pushing down on your bladder. The frequent need to go to the bathroom can start as early as a couple of weeks after conception though. This is due to hormonal changes increasing the blood flow in your kidneys to help rid your body of any toxins and waste.

Food Aversions and Cravings

Pregnancy can give you a heightened sense of smell. In turn, this could make some of your favorite foods become unappealing and even contribute to your nausea. You may also experience some pretty weird cravings. Pickles and ice cream is one of the more popular cravings among pregnant women. Don’t knock it till you try it, ladies!

Cramping and Bloating

These are the most difficult signs to distinguish a difference between whether it’s your period or if you’re pregnant. They probably won’t feel any different than normal, but they may last throughout your pregnancy.

Bleeding

If you’re spotting around the time you should be starting your period, this could be a sign of implantation bleeding. This means the embryo has set up camp in the uterine wall. This symptom is often overlooked, considering it typically does occur at the time of your period.

Missed Period

Obviously. If you’re one of the lucky women who have a regular period every month, it will probably be easy to tell when you’re late or have missed. But if your period is typically irregular or you don’t keep track of it, you may notice some of the signs above before ever realizing you’ve missed your period. A late or missed period is a good indicator of when you can take a pregnancy test and expect the best results.

Some women may never feel any of the above symptoms early in their pregnancy or may feel all of them. The best way to know if you are pregnant is to take a test after your missed period. Most tests may not accurately detect pregnancy until about a week after your missed period. So, if you take one sooner and it’s negative, try again in a couple of days. If/when you get a positive test, be sure to set up an appointment with your OBGYN as soon as possible so you can get the care you need.
